Corporate Social Responsibility

As a company, Frogster Interactive Pictures AG is part of society as a whole. Hence, we take our economical, social and ecological responsibilities seriously. Under the key phrase “Corporate Social Responsibility”, we are actively helping to promote social development wherever we can. As an internationally active games publisher, we are not only engaged in projects for Germany, but also promote sustainable projects worldwide.

Donation Drive
Working together with the children’s rights organization “Save the Children”, we employ our know-how and experience as an online games publisher for charitable projects. In the Christmas season of 2009, we launched our first donation drive benefitting children. The generosity of players from our large community allowed us to donate 40,000 euros to Save the Children in late January 2010.

In 2010, we made a donation to help support the Medical Intervention Team's deployment in Myanmar. This charitable organization consists of experienced doctors who regularly travel to developing countries to offer medical aid. That year, the team of doctors was returning to perform follow-up operations and see new patients after having been there a year earlier in 2009 to participate in an aid project. In total, the MIT successfully carried out 130 surgical and 240 dental procedures.

In a second drive with Save the Children, we managed to collect a sum of 82,000 euros in the Christmas season of 2010, a donation meant to help out needy children in the Kingdom of Bhutan. Because the donations of our players exceeded our expectations, not only were we able to realize the original project, which was to set up remote classrooms to assist with the education and healthcare needs of children in the remote mountain regions of the country, but also to realize additional aid projects in Bhutan. Save the Children is now training 40 school counsellors and also conducting 3-day workshops for youths at post-secondary institutions throughout the country. Thanks to the donations from Frogster, the children’s rights organization is also producing two editions of a manual for these youths that inform them, among other things, about their career options. Also, Save the Children will be using the funds Frogster has provided to build two youth centres as well as to provide them with two advisors. These advisors will also be able to receive continual training.

Environmental Consciousness
Global warming is one of the greatest challenges of our era. As a technologically-driven company, we are especially aware of our responsibility in this field, and are committed to doing our part to protect the climate and the environment. As far as possible, our head office in Berlin is supplied with electricity from 100% renewable energy from Naturstrom AG. In doing so, we reduce carbon emissions by 6.055 kg CO2 each year and promote the development of environmentally-friendly power generation. Naturstrom AG is an independent power company that sells power generated exclusively from hydroelectric and wind sources. This company also invests in the development of other environmentally-friendly power generation facilities, thereby increasing the proportion of renewable energy sources in Germany.

A Responsible and Innovative Employer
The economic success of a company is in no small way dependent on the contributions of its employees. This is the reason why we do our best to create an atmosphere of trust in the workplace, and in doing so allow our employees to give their creativity and innovation free rein. In 2008, as part of “Germany – Land of Ideas”, a joint initiative of German government and industry under the patronage of the German President, our company was distinguished as a “Landmark in the Land of Ideas”, underscoring our success in this respect. On 24th September 2008, we invited over 200 representatives from the business world, the media and various organizations to a symposium to discuss hot topics and innovations in the online games industry. Over 20 guest speakers consisting of experts from the innovative and dynamic gaming industry presented current trends and future models in the growing sector of online gaming and virtual worlds at our “Virtual Worlds Camp”.

Since 2006, we have been training young talent in order to ensure the long-term competitiveness of our company. As an accredited training company of the Berlin Chamber of Industry and Commerce, we currently have 4 trainees in our administrative, public relations and media design departments.

Protection of Minors
It is especially important that children and teenagers learn to use the internet wisely and play online role-playing games in moderation. On our websites, we have collected a number of tips and recommendations for parents that will contribute to a safe and enjoyable gaming experience. We are a member of “G.A.M.E.”, the German association of the computer games industry, which has published a handbook giving parents age-appropriate gaming advice.

Christoph Gerlinger

CEO | Frogster Interactive Pictures AG

Despite having left the games industry more than two years ago Christoph received a call from his former colleague and friend Dirk Weyel at the end of 2004, that a small computer games publisher with 11 staff was for sale. From 1996 to 1999 Christoph had co-built the German computer games business of Psygnosis, a Sony group company. 1999 he had co-founded CDV Software Entertainment AG took it public as MD in the CFO role in 2000 and co-managed it until end of 2001. Psygnosis and CDV were a big success during his time. So why not buy a small company and switch to the driver seat completely? Opportunities in the games hit business are large but so are the risks. Even more if you are a small challenger required to move ahead into innovative niches. Christoph bought the company beginning of 2005 together with Dirk, friends and family. Under the new name Frogster Interactive Pictures they have since focussed the company as one of the first in Europe on the growth market of virtual worlds, so called massively multiplayer online games. For the purists - Christoph was born 1967, has started his career with a "Banklehre" and holds a master degree in business admin from JW Goethe University in Frankfurt.
